How to prevent smoke from your candles

This is one of the questions I get asked all the time, so here are my top tips on how to keep the smoke at bay.

Before your first burn and before relighting, always trim the wick to 3mm (1/8"), and keep trimmed at all times while burning. Keeping your wick trimmed at all times will ensure you prevent any smoking from your candle. You can do this with a special wick trimmer (as in my above image) or alternatively by hand or with scissors.

Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches or any foreign matter - this is combustible material and may cause a fire hazard and will definitely cause your candle to give off a smoke.

Burn your candles indoors and away from drafts.  If your candle flame is flickering (causing it to smoke), simply move it elsewhere and away from any drafts.  A candle flame should have a steady flame.

If smoking occurs, safely extinguish the candle, trim wick (with scissors or a wick trimer), remove trimmings and relight.
